El Museo del Barrio | IN OUR LINGO | DJ Disco Wiz / Jamel Shabazz

Tuesday, November 17, 2009
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
El Café
Admission: Free

DJ Disco Wiz & Jamel Shabazz will engage us in a multi-media dialogue, “cipher” style, featuring the first ‘mixed plate’ beats to those styles rocked in the 80’s. Wiz’s recent biography It’s Just Begun (co-authored with Ivan Sanchez) will serve as a point of departure to discuss the life of the first Latino hip hop DJ.

Our recently inaugurated Carmen Unanue Galleries, which house El Museo’s Permanent Collection, will be open for program’s attendees to visit from 6pm- 9pm!

About this Series:
Taking a new or recently published book as its point of departure, each session of In Our Lingo brings together Latino authors in conversation with filmmakers, artists, and writers, all sharing their views on the themes and issues addressed in the work. It's a candid, intimate dialogue, giving audiences an inside look at the forces behind contemporary Latino/a literature.
