LUSENHOP Fine Art Presents Melvin W. Clark: A Career Survey

"For more than thirty years, Melvin W. Clark has explored the potential of color and lines as much as he has celebrated the objects and figures that fill his compositions. Clark is a latter-day Modernist. In discussing his influences, he often mentions Leger, Rivera and Charles White. So, too, does he relate his first visit with the powerful nkisi nkonde figure in the Detroit Institute of Art's African collection. Finally, Clark inevitably mentions his love of Jazz and Blues, and his endless studio struggle to create painterly riffs as powerful as those coming from the horns and guitars of the musical great."
