Funky jass orchestra Brooklyn Qawwali Party performs songs that honor the legendary Pakistani vocalist Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

I Named Her Angel (Nefin Dinc, 2006, 30 min., Turkish with English subtitles) follows twelve-year-old Elif as she studies the art of whirling and prepares to join the Mevlevi Brotherhood. A Sufi whirling dance demonstration in the Beaux-Arts Court follows. Free tickets (340) are available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m.

6–7 p.m. Artist Talk
Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, Forum, 4th floor
Seher Shah, whose work is featured in the exhibition 21: Selections of Contemporary Art from the Brooklyn Museum, gives a talk. Free tickets (30) are available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m.

6:30-8:30 p.m. Hands-On Art
Education Division, 1st Floor
Create a lantern inspired by Light of the Sufis art and poetry. Free timed tickets (380) are available at the Visitor Center at 5:30 p.m.

I Love Hip Hop in Morocco (Joshua Asen, Jennifer Needleman, 2007, 80 min., NR) follows a group of Moroccan artists producing the country's first professional hip-hop concert. Student Guides explore the diversity of Islamic art and identity in the Museum's permanent collection.

Ladan Akbarnia, Associate Curator of Islamic Art, gives a talk on the special exhibition Light of the Sufis. Free tickets (30) are available at the Visitor Center at 6 p.m.

Join NYU professor Sibel Erol for an intimate discussion about Orhan Pamuk's My Name Is Red, an award-winning murder mystery revolving around illuminated manuscripts in sixteenth-century Istanbul.

9:30-10:45 p.m. Music

Funky jazz orchestra Brooklyn Qawwali Party performs a second set.

9-11 p.m. Dance Party
Museum Parking Lot (Rain Location: Beaux-Arts Court, 3rd floor)
GlobeSonic Sound System DJ Fabian Alsultany and DJ Pepe of Electric Lila transform the eclectic sounds and rythems of the Islamic world into a hot dance party.
